Jennifer and Michael’s romantic wedding OceanCliff Newport Wedding was a celebration of love and joy, set against the backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty. The couple exchanged vows at the historic OceanCliff Hotel, an iconic venue perched above the sparkling waters, surrounded by pristine, rolling lawns that stretch toward the horizon. The historic charm of Newport provided the perfect setting, where, as they said “I do,” the gentle sight of sailboats drifting by added an extra touch of magic to the moment.

Jennifer and Mike, both professionals in the world of finance, first crossed paths in their careers, sparking a connection that would soon lead to a lifetime of love. The proposal took place in the comfort of their New York City apartment, in a moment as thoughtful as it was unexpected. As Jennifer prepared for a dinner out, Mike casually mentioned he was taking out the trash—a seemingly ordinary statement that set the stage for something extraordinary. After he stepped outside, he rang the doorbell (a familiar gesture, as he often forgets his keys). When Jennifer answered, she heard their song as she walked down the hallway. There, on the door, was a heartfelt note he’d left for her. After reading it, she opened the door to find Mike on one knee, ready to ask the most important question of their lives. The sweetness of the moment lingered, but it didn’t end there—later that evening, as they went to dinner as planned, Jennifer returned to an unexpected surprise: an engagement party filled with their closest friends and family, all gathered to celebrate the joyous occasion.

They chose OceanCliff for their wedding because selecting a meaningful location was deeply important to them. During the summer of 2020, they spent their days in Newport, welcoming different friends and family members each weekend and creating cherished memories together. Newport also marked their very first vacation as a family of three, making it an unforgettable chapter in their lives—so it was only fitting that the city became part of their wedding celebration.

As their wedding stationer, I knew Newport had to be at the heart of their invitations. To bring their story to life, I hand-painted a custom watercolor map adorned with the landmarks and venues most meaningful to them. We designed an elegant gatefold that unfolded to reveal the details of their wedding celebrations, almost like opening a keepsake. They loved it so much, the map was reimagined as part of their cocktail hour décor, allowing guests to wander through their love story in watercolor.

One of the most heartfelt details of the day was having their sweet son, Luke, as their ring bearer. Including him in such an important role was incredibly meaningful to them—it was a beautiful way to celebrate their love not only as a couple but as a family. What made the moment even more unforgettable was the timing: just a week before the wedding, Luke had taken his very first steps. So when he made his way down the aisle, it wasn’t just as their ring bearer, but as a little boy taking some of his very first steps in life, surrounded by the people who love him most. It was a moment filled with joy, tenderness, and the perfect reminder of why the day was so special.

Their ceremony and cocktail hour were filled with thoughtful, personal touches. A New England seafood station paid homage to their love of Newport, while their choice of wedding band carried an extra layer of nostalgia—the very same band they used to see together while dating.

We carried their custom watercolor details into the wedding day itself, designing bespoke matchboxes, napkins, bar signs, escort cards, table numbers, and menus that added a personal, artistic touch. Their monogram, first introduced on the invitations, was thoughtfully reimagined to reflect their new married name—a beautiful symbol of the next chapter in their story.
